Instructions for a nare plugged with hardened snot.
Does your chicken have a plugged nare (nostril)?
Annette has a simple cure that really helps the bird.
-
Gently apply peroxide, the kind you use for first aid, to the nostril for a few days to soften the snot.
Do NOT get any in your bird's EYES
-
Pry the plug out at a corner with your thumbnail.
It will pop out in one gross clump leaving an alarmingly widened nostril in its wake.
-
The nostril should shrink down by the next morning.
You might want to isolate your friend in a clean cage until then, so nothing will cause an infection.
Sometimes the plug requires days or weeks of soaking and digging. Be Gentle! OUCH!
The best instruments to use are PLASTIC dental floss pics.
Get a bag of them for a couple of bucks.
Trust me here--I've dug the equivalent of a baseball out of my Silkie's nose, several times.
